A pivotal development for fleet operators is now available with the creation of an HVO fuel and diesel mixing calculator.
- Certas Energy has launched the first fleet balancing calculator, aiding cost-effective fuel mix strategies.
- This tool helps operators balance the high cost of HVO with traditional diesel efficiently.
- Trucks contribute significantly to emissions, making HVO a key consideration despite its cost.
- Partial use of HVO can offer negligible cost differences while aiding decarbonisation.
In a significant advancement for fleet operators, Certas Energy has introduced a groundbreaking fleet balancing calculator. This innovative tool allows operators to compute the costs associated with mixing Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) with traditional diesel. Such a feature is crucial as HVO, although environmentally beneficial, is priced higher per litre compared to conventional diesel. This tool aims to assist operators in making informed decisions on fuel usage, leveraging the benefits of HVO without bearing prohibitive costs.
Reece Hampton, the national sales manager at Certas, emphasised the potential impact of the transport sector in reducing emissions. According to Hampton, trucks account for a large portion of road users, and even minor changes by operators can contribute significantly to emission reductions. He stated, “HVO is an obvious choice when it comes to reducing carbon emissions, but many operators are put off by the cost, which at first glance can appear much higher.”
Hampton further explained that the perceived cost difference might not be as substantial when operators opt for blending or using HVO selectively. This approach not only mitigates cost concerns but also aids in vital decarbonisation efforts. He added, “Whether operators are planning a full or partial switch to HVO, we can help them find out how much it is going to cost and what is feasible for their business.”
The calculator stands out as the first automated tool enabling operators to accurately work out these figures, providing a realistic pathway for businesses to undertake decarbonisation. The calculator’s launch marks a significant step in supporting operators who are keen on transitioning towards sustainable practices without undermining their financial stability.
The introduction of the HVO balancing calculator is a progressive step towards sustainable transportation solutions.
