Caddick Construction has embarked on an ambitious project at Loreto Sixth Form College in Hulme, involving the development of a modern three-storey teaching block. This expansion is set to include 20 state-of-the-art classrooms alongside a 200-seat lecture theatre, equipping the institution to accommodate a larger student body and enhance its educational offerings.
Situated on Moss Road West, this 24,000 sq ft facility extends the college’s footprint adjacent to its current location on Chichester Road South. This strategic placement ensures seamless integration with existing college infrastructure, facilitating improved student and staff access across the campus.
Achieving planning approval in September 2023 marked a pivotal moment for the development, clearing the way for construction under Caddick’s comprehensive pre-construction services agreement. This preliminary phase was crucial, as it laid the foundational work needed to commence full-scale building activities.
In addition to erecting the new teaching block, Caddick’s contract delineates the refurbishment of existing college buildings. This includes the installation of new science labs and catering facilities, along with a 110 sq m outdoor canopied seating area, providing enhanced educational and recreational spaces.
A notable feature of the project is the development of a science garden and landscaped reflection areas, aimed at maximising the use of green space and offering serene environments conducive to learning and relaxation.
This expansion was procured through the NHS Shared Business Services public sector construction works framework. This framework offers the NHS and the wider public sector a streamlined pathway to engage in construction activities, ensuring compliance and efficiency in public infrastructure projects.
The expansion at Loreto Sixth Form College exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to educational infrastructure development.
