James Eastham has been appointed as the head of Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) at Caddick, an innovative construction company known for its growth and stability. Eastham joins Caddick after a noteworthy tenure at Sir Robert McAlpine, where he led health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives in Northern regions for three years. Following this, he was elevated to head of health, safety, and wellbeing in May 2023, a position that sharpened his expertise in managing diverse safety mandates across wide-ranging projects.
At Caddick, Eastham’s leadership will extend over the company’s North and Midlands regions, where he will spearhead safety and quality performance strategies. His responsibilities also encompass oversight for Caddick Civil Engineering and CCL Facades, a subsidiary known for its commitment to sustainability and quality in facade solutions. Based in the North West regional office in Warrington, his role signifies a strategic pivot towards a reinforced SHEQ strategy that aligns with Caddick’s expansive, yet meticulous growth plans.
Eastham’s professional journey is marked by a substantive shift from practical trade skills to safety management excellence. Having started his career as an apprentice joiner at Eric Wright Construction, he spent a decade honing his craft before transitioning to health and safety in 2013. By 2018, at Mace, he was managing health, safety, and wellbeing for major projects, including the prestigious Tottenham Hotspur stadium development in London.
In his remarks, Eastham highlighted Caddick’s pivotal position in the industry, navigating between tier 1 and tier 2 contractors. He expressed enthusiasm for the potential to advance the firm’s safety and environmental benchmarks while ensuring simplicity in processes that uphold quality and safety standards. “Caddick is really bucking the trend as a strong, stable and growing contractor,” Eastham stated, emphasizing the company’s agility and quality-focused growth strategy.
Group Managing Director Paul Dodsworth echoed Eastham’s sentiments, citing the company’s vibrant growth trajectory over the past two years. Dodsworth affirmed, “Growing sustainably is the only way to preserve our standards in quality and safety,” noting Eastham’s role as crucial in enhancing focus on safety, environmental performance, and the overall wellbeing of the workforce. Eastham’s appointment is seen as timely and strategic, aimed at bolstering Caddick’s commitment to these core values as the company tackles ambitious projects across new regions.
James Eastham’s appointment marks a strategic move by Caddick to enhance its SHEQ leadership and uphold its growth and quality standards.
