Leeds has seen the establishment of Mood Films, a new independent production company injecting innovation into the local creative scene. The enterprise was co-founded by Louis Jones and Jeanine Guerida, two professionals whose relationship evolved from a mentoring dynamic into a business partnership. Their journey together began in 2017 at the BFI Film Academy, with the support of Access Moving Image and Leeds Film. It was here that Jones, then a student, and Guerida, a mentor, first collaborated, sowing the seeds for their future alliance. This connection, fostered through practical engagement in the academy, set the stage for their eventual cooperative venture.
Following his academic stint, Jones embarked on a career in videography, initially exploring the industry through freelance work at weddings and various events. His career path soon transitioned towards technical roles in lighting as a spark and gaffer, where he built substantial expertise. Engaging across multiple domains such as the music industry, television, and commercials, Jones honed his skills in lighting, which significantly informed his development as a director of photography. His entrepreneurial efforts eventually led him to create impactful visuals for esteemed brands including Leeds United and Adidas.
Guerida, on the other hand, amassed her expertise in production within agency environments, serving at companies such as Sodium Films, Ride Shotgun, and Hatch. Her tenure at these agencies equipped her with the ability to manage multifaceted creative projects with finesse, establishing her as a versatile producer in the industry. Their distinct, complementary experiences converged once more in early 2023 when they were hired for The Awakening, the launch event for the Leeds 2023 Year of Culture. This successful collaboration not only revived their professional rapport but also catalysed the inception of Mood Films.
Within a short span, Mood Films has swiftly established its presence, notably securing a nomination for the Prolific North Creative Award. The nomination came for their work on The Grieving Pint, a campaign focused on men’s mental health. This recognition underscores the company’s commitment to addressing significant societal issues through compelling narratives. Moreover, both Jones and Guerida are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of creative talent. Beneficiaries of the Prince’s Trust program themselves, they are keen on supporting aspiring creatives, working closely with Access Moving Image in this endeavour. Additionally, Mood Films enjoys the support of the NatWest Entrepreneur Accelerator, which aids its ambitious growth plans.
Mood Films is set to make a substantial impact on the creative industry in Leeds with its innovative approach and community-focused initiatives.
