Brit European Transport, a significant name in the logistics sector, has successfully secured a £4m funding package from Lloyds Bank. This funding is strategically aimed at expanding the company’s fleet with newer, fuel-efficient tractor units, which aligns perfectly with their continuing efforts to push towards sustainability. A well-established firm, Brit European is known for its extensive operations across the UK and Europe, handling logistics for notable companies such as JCB and Mercedes-Benz.
To further establish itself as a forerunner in sustainable logistics, Brit European has invested heavily in green technologies over recent years. The company boasts considerable strides in reducing its carbon footprint through innovative measures. For instance, the company headquarters, Vita Nova Centre, is equipped with 80 solar panels and plans are afoot to install a wind turbine aimed at powering almost all of its operations through renewable sources.
Moreover, Brit European has achieved what it claims is a world first by utilising methane gas extracted from slurry pits. This initiative not only powers their hybrid and electric vehicles but significantly reduces methane emissions, which are a major contributor to greenhouse gases. By converting waste methane into fuel, the company underscores its commitment to environmental responsibility.
Chief executive Graham Lackey highlights the importance of innovation and technology in achieving net zero targets. He stated, ‘Using more innovative means and technologies will be crucial in making inroads to meet net zero. We know that our clients want to act quickly to become more sustainable.’ Lackey further emphasises the firm’s commitment to evolve and lead within the sector, underscoring the transformative nature of their recent investments.
Kay Wareing from Lloyds Bank commends Brit European’s clear sustainability plan and highlights the importance of such initiatives in business operations today. By scrutinising operations and identifying opportunities for ‘green gains’, the relationship with Lloyds has been instrumental in pushing Brit European towards achieving its sustainability goals. Wareing remarked, ‘Brit European shows what’s possible when there is a clear plan on target areas that will turn the dial on sustainability.’
Brit European’s collaboration with Lloyds Bank sets a new standard in the logistics industry’s pursuit of sustainability through innovation.
