B&Q intensifies its community engagement through its annual volunteering campaign, partnering with Neighbourly.
- Over 311 B&Q stores in the UK and Ireland are committed to significant local DIY projects.
- Volunteers and up to £1,000 in B&Q products are allocated to each community initiative.
- The collaboration has supported over 2,000 local causes since its inception in 2019.
- B&Q’s Reuse programme further aids communities by donating surplus products.
B&Q’s annual volunteering initiative, Community Days, in partnership with Neighbourly, underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to community involvement in the UK and Ireland. This year, all 311 B&Q stores are prepared to contribute both manpower and essential DIY products valued up to £1,000 per store to various local charitable projects.
These projects, ranging from refurbishing community centres to setting up garden spaces and enhancing facilities, are meticulously selected to ensure they cater to the specific needs of local communities. The initiative manifests B&Q’s strategy to create a lasting impact in the areas they serve.
Since the inception of the Neighbourly partnership in 2019, B&Q employees have dedicated their efforts to more than 2,000 local causes. A notable example is the extensive support provided to Blackpool & The Fylde Street Angels, where volunteers have contributed over 200 hours to aid the homeless, addicted, or exploited. As Richard Cooper, a B&Q store manager, notes: ‘The store team loves getting out into the community to give back and share some of our DIY skills.’
Furthermore, B&Q’s Community Reuse programme effectively reduces waste and benefits communities by donating surplus materials to local groups, charities, and schools. To date, this initiative has distributed 725 tonnes of products, reflecting the company’s drive towards sustainability and community support.
Jo Curtis, a community manager at B&Q, and Steve Butterworth, CEO of Neighbourly, both emphasize that such projects underline B&Q’s dedication to social responsibility and community collaboration. Butterworth highlights the importance of businesses like B&Q in supporting local causes and building sustainable communities through meaningful partnerships.
B&Q’s Community Days exemplify its profound commitment to leveraging resources and skills in fostering community development and sustainability.
