British menswear designer Bianca Saunders has been awarded the BFC/GQ Designer Fashion Fund for 2024, a recognition that brings with it a substantial £100,000 prize intended to support her continued business development. This accolade is not merely monetary; it also provides recipients with 12 months of invaluable business mentoring from the BFC Fashion Business Network, alongside legal services guidance from the specialist firm Sheridans.
The competition this year was intense, with Saunders emerging victorious among other notable designers, including Labrum London, Saul Nash, and Bleue Burnham. The process was overseen by a distinguished panel co-chaired by Caroline Rush, Chief Executive Officer of the BFC, and Adam Baidawi, Head of Editorial Content at British GQ. The panel boasted experts such as GQ fashion editor Angelo Mitakos, GQ senior style editor Murray Clark, Sheridans partner Tahir Basheer, and esteemed fashion designer Nicholas Daley.
Saunders launched her brand after graduating from The Royal College of Art in 2017. Her rapid ascent in the fashion industry was underscored by her inclusion in Drapers’ 30 Under 30 list in 2021, winning the French ANDAM prize that same year, and making a significant appearance when her creations adorned American musician Usher at the Met Gala in 2023. Her label has recently expanded significantly, increasing her team from two to ten members and doubling her number of stockists to 40 high-end retailers across the globe, including prominent outlets like Selfridges, Browns, and Machine-A in the UK.
In a statement reflecting her pride and aspirations, Saunders expressed immense gratitude, saying: “To join the ranks of past winners who inspire me daily is a dream come true. The support from the BFC and GQ means the world to my team and me.” She alluded to the role that guidance and mentorship will play in advancing her brand into a sustainably thriving business.
Caroline Rush, speaking on behalf of the BFC, commended Saunders for her exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship, noting that her efforts have successfully positioned the brand at the forefront of contemporary menswear design.
Bianca Saunders’ award highlights her exceptional talent and promising future in the fashion industry.
