Be.EV, a prominent electric vehicle charge point operator (CPO) in the UK, has secured a £3.5 million deal to supply ultra-rapid chargers across various Magnetar Capital-backed shopping centres. This partnership involves a strategic implementation of 38 state-of-the-art chargers at four key locations: Corby Town Centre, One Stop Shopping in Birmingham, Priory Shopping Centre in Dartford, and Yate Shopping Centre in South Gloucestershire. Such an initiative signifies a notable advancement in the provision of electric vehicle facilities within these bustling retail environments.
The shopping centres cater to renowned retail giants such as Tesco, ASDA, Sainsburys, Primark, and M&S Outlet. They are poised to transform into some of the most substantial ultra-rapid charging hubs in their respective regions. This transition is expected to draw in a considerable influx of electric vehicle drivers, complementing the existing diverse shopping options with essential charging amenities.
Notably, South Gloucestershire, a region with one of the lowest electric vehicle charger densities in the United Kingdom, is set to greatly benefit from this project. The new installations promise to significantly bolster the region’s EV infrastructure, making it more accommodating for both local and visiting electric vehicle users.
The chargers themselves boast impressive technological capabilities. Equipped with Kempower technology, they provide a charge of up to 150kW, enabling vehicles to gain approximately 165 miles of range in merely 20 minutes. Further enhancing their utility, these chargers feature dynamic load-balancing, intelligently allocating available power among vehicles based on demand, thus optimising charging efficiency and reducing wait times in peak usage periods.
Magnetar Capital expects this infrastructure enhancement to not only increase visitor numbers but also to elevate the value and appeal of their shopping centre portfolio. The enhanced facilities are likely to attract new customers to participating retailers, reinforcing their business proposition. Industry leaders Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV, and Tim Williams of Northdale Advisors have expressed their enthusiasm, citing both the operational benefits and broader ESG strategy alignments as key drivers of this collaboration.
This strategic partnership between Be.EV and Magnetar Capital heralds a new era for electric vehicle infrastructure in the UK, mutually benefiting retailers and consumers.
