On Saturday, January 13, the agency saw a 20% rise in sales compared to the previous weekend, which itself included a record-breaking day known as ‘Sunshine Saturday’. This outstanding performance underscores the robust demand for travel this year.
The momentum continued into Sunday, January 14, which turned out to be their most successful Sunday ever. According to Jacqueline Dobson, President of Barrhead Travel, the first half of January has already hinted at an extraordinary month, driven by customers considering holidays as essential expenditures for the year and seeking agents’ expertise in finding the best value deals.
Family bookings have shown significant growth, as families rush to lock in key school holiday dates. Concurrently, the agency has witnessed a surge in interest for cruises, notably departures from destinations like Barbados and Southampton, ranking high among their top bookings. The popularity of summer 2024 as a travel season is apparent, though late holiday deals continue to attract last-minute planners, with nearly 20% of recent bookings scheduled for travel before March.
The preferred destinations this January have been Tenerife, Mallorca, Barbados, and Lanzarote, with cruise options from Southampton also holding strong appeal for travellers. Dobson further remarks that these initial weeks of trading reveal a resilient holiday market poised for frequent and possibly longer trips during the upcoming year.
