Baldwins Travel has successfully acquired Westerham Travel, bringing the total number of Baldwins’ outlets to eleven. This acquisition is a strategic move to expand Baldwins’ presence in Kent, following the recent opening of their Grantham store, the first one outside the southeast region.
Westerham Travel, established by Simon Firbank in 1972, boasts a robust affluent customer base. Its acquisition signifies a new chapter for the agency, allowing Firbank to retire as Baldwins takes over. This transition will see the store refurbished and rebranded, and it is set to reopen with staff from Baldwins in about two to three weeks.
The strategic location of Westerham, with its excellent road and rail connections to the capital, makes it a valuable addition to Baldwins’ portfolio. The acquisition aligns with Baldwins’ expansive growth strategy for 2024-25, which includes opening five new retail locations.
Nick Marks, managing director at Baldwins, affirmed the importance of integrating Westerham Travel into the Baldwins ethos, emphasising their commitment to community involvement and charity work. He expressed enthusiasm for engaging with the local community during the transition period.
Dan Shaw, chief commercial officer, highlighted the acquisition as part of a broader strategy to bolster Baldwins’ presence through well-considered acquisitions and the establishment of new locations. This approach is aimed at achieving the store opening targets for 2024.
Baldwins Travel recently conducted a successful cruise and touring event at Salomons Estate, near Tunbridge Wells. The event drew approximately 250 clients and featured representatives from 31 suppliers, showcasing a notable increase in the cruise and touring market, particularly in the solos sector, which is experiencing double-digit growth.
The acquisition of Westerham Travel is a pivotal move in Baldwins Travel’s strategic growth plan, enhancing its reach and market presence.
