The Association of Touring and Adventure Suppliers (Atas) witnessed noteworthy growth over the last year, recording a substantial 8% increase in bookings and a 10% rise in overall revenue for the Association as well as a 9% increase for individual agents. This growth was discussed at the latest Atas conference, which saw a record attendance of 400 delegates, 250 of whom were agents.
Membership has seen significant expansion with new members such as Audley Travel, Encounters Travel, Exodus Adventure Travel, and others joining since the 2023 conference, resulting in a 25% rise in travel agent membership atop last year’s 38% increase. Atas also revealed the development of a new, more user-friendly website, designed to provide enhanced information about members, as well as featuring additional videos and downloadable assets.
A new training system, developed in collaboration with Online Travel Training, is set to be introduced. This initiative aims to provide member agents with advanced knowledge of touring and adventure products, supporting their capability to offer informed services to clients. Additionally, an improved Atas Touring and Adventure Guide will be launched, promising members advanced access to rich educational resources.
Regional growth trends were highlighted, with the highest development observed in polar regions, Africa, Asia, Europe, and Australasia. Notably, North America faced a slight dip, whereas Spain, France, and Peru saw remarkable increases despite declines in countries such as Jordan, Egypt, and Ecuador due to political unrest.
Demographically, there was a notable 22% increase in the 20-somethings market, with a significant 23% rise in travellers aged 60-69. The female solo travel market continues its strong performance, reflecting broader trends of seeking meaningful connections and sustainable travel experiences. This sector particularly benefits from agents’ expertise, who guide travellers off-the-beaten track to address overtourism challenges.
The consistent growth of Atas and its proactive initiatives underscore the evolving landscape of touring and adventure travel.
