The Association of Touring and Adventure Suppliers (ATAS) has joined forces with AS Training to provide apprentices with opportunities to attend high-profile industry events. Two exemplary apprentices recently attended the ATAS Experiences event hosted in Lake Como, Italy, marking a significant step in their professional development.
During their stay at Lake Como, the apprentices engaged in diverse activities designed to broaden their understanding of the travel industry. They began with a welcome reception at Villa Erba, where they interacted with Italian tourism and hospitality representatives, before participating in a workshop and a picturesque boat trip on the lake in collaboration with TTC Tour Brands. Meeting fellow agents and suppliers during the dine-arounds in Como restaurants further enriched their experience.
The event also included specialised tours, with Hayley Jordan joining G Adventures on an e-biking tour and Sky Needham exploring Villa del Balbianello with Riviera Travel, an iconic location featured in films like Star Wars and James Bond. Needham extended her experience by attending a pre-event familiarisation tour hosted by Intrepid Travel, which included train travel from London to Paris and further to Zurich, before reaching Como.
ATAS Director Claire Brighton expressed the organisation’s dedication to mentoring apprentices, emphasising that their participation aids in grasping the sector’s dynamics. She highlighted their commitment to ensuring apprentices comprehend the growing travel market, fostering confidence in selling touring and adventure holidays. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts, including a planned webinar and the annual conference in Leeds.
Michelle Van Sprang, Director of AS Training, praised the apprentices’ achievements at the event, acknowledging the vital experience and networking opportunities it presented. She noted the importance of connecting with industry leaders, which aligns with their curriculum focusing on the burgeoning adventure and touring markets.
Sky Needham was enthusiastic about the cultural insights gained from the Intrepid tour in Montmartre, sharing content with her agency to leverage train travel’s appeal in social media promotions. Meanwhile, Hayley Jordan found the e-biking tour in Lake Como both scenic and informative, offering valuable interactions with agents and suppliers.
The partnership between ATAS and AS Training successfully integrates apprentices into the travel industry, offering invaluable experiences and insight.
