AS Training is set on a charitable path this summer, mobilising its apprentices to engage in fundraising activities for Reuben’s Retreat. The company has fostered a partnership with the prominent industry charity with a goal to raise £5,000. Currently housing just over 100 travel apprentices, the organisation plans to expand this number to approximately 150 by year-end.
Adrian Van Sprang, the company’s Marketing Coordinator, has set the precedent by joining Reuben’s Retreat’s Everest Trek, a 15-day expedition to Nepal’s South Everest Base Camp. This challenge has attracted professionals from within and outside the travel industry, collectively raising over £14,000, with Adrian personally securing £1,475 towards a £2,000 target.
The initiative has been met with positive reactions from employers familiar with the charity’s esteemed reputation. Apprentices are enthusiastically proposing ways to raise funds, inspired by Adrian’s exemplary commitment. Michelle Van Sprang, Director, highlighting this involvement, stated: “Adrian has inspired a lot of them to dust off their walking boots!”
The flexibility offered to each apprentice to choose their charitable activity is a key component of this endeavour. Options range from sponsored walks, bake sales, and dress down days to participating in Reuben’s Retreat-organised events like the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. Support is extended to apprentices to establish individual fundraising pages, augmenting the company’s collective effort on givengain.com.
Fundamentally, this venture offers apprentices a platform to hone their skills while contributing to a significant cause. “By engaging in charitable work, apprentices can develop practical skills and enhance their soft skills, fostering personal growth and a sense of achievement,” Michelle Van Sprang elaborated. Encouraging active participation regardless of the scale, the initiative underscores the company’s commitment to community involvement.
AS Training’s summer initiative successfully blends skill development with impactful charity work, setting a benchmark for future apprenticeships.
