Amazon is making significant strides in enhancing employment opportunities in the East Midlands with the announcement of a new fulfilment centre at SEGRO Logistics Park, Northampton. The centre, which is set to open in 2026, is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs, contributing substantially to the regional workforce.
This new development will be housed in a sprawling two million square foot facility, designed to incorporate three floors of state-of-the-art robotics technology. Products will be efficiently stored and orders meticulously picked, setting a benchmark for innovation and efficiency in logistics operations.
The initial launch will see the creation of 1,400 jobs, which will increase to over 2,000 within three years. The diverse range of roles includes engineering, HR, IT, health and safety, finance, and various positions for order processing and distribution, reflecting a broad spectrum of opportunities for the local community.
Amazon’s regional director, Neil Travis, emphasises the strategic importance of the East Midlands. He states that the company aims to bolster its workforce in the region to surpass 10,000, reinforcing its role as a significant employer since their investment in the region first exceeded £4 billion in 2010.
Louise Wall, chief executive of the Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the strategic location of the SEGRO Logistics Park. The investment represents a major endorsement of the region’s pivotal role within the UK’s logistics sector.
