AmaWaterways has revealed plans to introduce two additional river cruise ships to its expanding fleet by the year 2026, underscoring the company’s commitment to enhancing its service offerings on major waterways globally. The new ships, AmaSofia and AmaKaia, will bolster its presence in Europe and Southeast Asia, respectively, aligning with an increasing demand for diverse travel experiences.
The AmaSofia is scheduled to embark on its maiden voyage on 24 May 2026. Catering to the quintessential European river cruise enthusiast, it will sail the Rhine and Danube rivers. Its introductory itinerary, titled ‘Magnificent Europe’, promises a 14-night exploration between the iconic cities of Amsterdam and Budapest. Subsequently, AmaSofia will continue to offer popular routes such as ‘Melodies of the Danube’, ‘Romantic Danube’, and ‘Christmas Markets on the Danube’, undertaking a total of 30 sailings throughout its inaugural year.
In contrast, AmaKaia will make waves in Southeast Asia commencing 3 August 2026. This vessel is set to traverse the scenic Mekong River, connecting travellers with the rich cultural landscapes of Vietnam and Cambodia. Initially, its journey begins with a seven-night cruise, and further introduces two bespoke itineraries named ‘Charms of the Mekong’ and ‘Riches of the Mekong’. These voyages collectively embody 22 departures in 2026 and expand to 38 in the subsequent year, 2027.
