Amadeus River Cruises has introduced the Amadeus Amara, a cruise ship emphasising sustainability as its core feature. Designed to set sail on the Danube in July 2025, this ship is described as Amadeus’ “most sustainable ever.” This bold claim is rooted in its innovative lightweight construction paired with an exceptionally shallow draft, allowing it to remain operational even with fluctuating water levels. Such design considerations contribute significantly to reducing water resistance, thereby minimising fuel consumption.
Further enhancing its sustainable features, the Amara boasts an efficiently designed hull, fuel-saving autopilot mechanisms, and solar panels located on the sun deck. These elements are pivotal in providing renewable energy and optimising the ship’s propulsion efficiency, significantly lowering its environmental footprint. According to Amadeus, the ship also utilises a state-of-the-art steering system. This technology is adept at automatically adjusting for various conditions, including currents, water levels, ship traffic, wind speeds, and wave conditions, thereby maximising efficiency and reducing emissions.
Passenger experience has not been overlooked in Amara’s design. Martina Lüftner, founder and managing director of Amadeus, emphasised the ship as a “technical masterpiece” and “a true gem” for travellers. The ship integrates an elegant interior design, an indoor pool at the stern, twelve spacious suites featuring walk-out balconies and cosy reading nooks, alongside 70 standard cabins equipped with drop-down panoramic windows and luxurious bathrooms.
As the ship prepares for its maiden voyage in July 2025, Amadeus has planned an exclusive offer comprising early departure packages, including flights and a cruise through the Danube’s renowned Christmas Markets. This strategic approach not only underlines Amara’s forthcoming debut but also highlights the company’s initiative in promoting sustainable travel experiences.
Amadeus Amara stands as a testament to innovation in sustainable cruising, prioritising both environmental responsibility and passenger luxury.
