The much-anticipated agent familiarisation trip to Western Australia signifies a significant milestone for the travel industry, being the first of its kind in over five years. Set to occur in November, this initiative is a joint endeavour with Tourism WA and an airline, offering agents a return flight from Heathrow to Perth.
Once in Western Australia, the agents will be divided into two distinct groups for a comprehensive exploration. One contingent will set off on an adventurous road trip northward from Perth, visiting iconic sites such as the Pinnacles, Kalbarri, and the renowned Monkey Mia. Meanwhile, the other group will enjoy a diverse experience that includes the spectacular surf beaches, the esteemed wineries of Margaret River, and encounters with the region’s unique wildlife.
A highlight of this journey is the planned gathering on Rottnest Island. Here, agents will have the exceptional opportunity to observe the marsupials known as quokkas, an experience complemented by a culinary exploration in Perth and Fremantle, allowing them to savour the region’s local cuisine and offerings.
Shubhra Halliday, the sales director, expressed immense enthusiasm, stating: “We are thrilled to partner with Qantas and Tourism WA to offer this incredible fam trip. It’s a chance for travel agents to see and feel the magic of Western Australia, from the breathtaking natural wonders to the rich cultural heritage.” This statement illustrates the trip’s dual objective: not only to educate but also to inspire travel agents, deepening their understanding of the destination.
Aiming to institutionalise this educational endeavour, the organisers aspire to conduct annual trips with the support of airline and tourist board partners. To vie for a place on this exclusive journey, UK-based registered agents must complete one of several activities by September 30, 2024. These activities include attending webinars, participating in in-person training, or making a qualifying booking that involves a minimum stay in Western Australia.
Further incentivising participation, agents who secure a booking involving Western Australia will be rewarded with an additional financial incentive, enhancing their engagement and commitment to promoting the region.
This initiative not only educates but also ignites enthusiasm among agents, positioning Western Australia as a premier travel destination.
