In an inspiring endeavour, Abbie Heaton, a group manager affiliated with Personal Travel Consultants, soared through the skies to achieve a remarkable fundraising milestone. Her audacious skydiving challenge aimed to support North Staffs Mind, a charity dedicated to mental health. The event drew significant attention as Heaton not only took on this daring feat but also managed to exceed her initial fundraising target by a substantial margin.
Heaton, who initially set a modest goal, successfully raised £1,070 in under three months, a figure surpassing her expectation by more than 200%. This achievement was driven by her commitment to raising awareness and funds for mental health services, particularly the provision of sponsored counselling sessions. “We all say mental health is important, but raising awareness, creating fundraisers and learning what the money we raise actually contributes to – in our case, six sessions of funded counselling – is invaluable as that money can help someone’s life,” Heaton articulated, emphasising the real-world impact of such contributions.
The skydive, while daunting, was described by Heaton as a surprisingly exhilarating experience. “I was quite calm on the day, however once we’d reached altitude in the aircraft and the door opened, that was the ‘this is real’ moment,” she recounted. The thrill of the free fall, initially perceived as the most intimidating aspect, turned out to be the highlight of her aerial adventure.
This philanthropic initiative is part of a broader strategy by Personal Travel Consultants to consolidate their efforts in supporting mental health causes, underscoring the agency’s commitment to societal well-being beyond its primary business pursuits. The recent annual conference in Majorca further solidified this resolve, preparing the team for a gamut of upcoming fundraising events.
Abbie Heaton’s skydiving achievement not only raised substantial funds but also heightened awareness for mental health.
