Abta is organising an important conference call scheduled for the 24th of September at 11am, dedicated to discussing the soon-to-be-implemented EU Entry/Exit System (EES). This new system, set to become operational in November, represents a considerable transformation in how travel to Europe will be managed. Its purpose is to electronically register every entry and exit from the 29 participating European countries, affecting those with third-country status.
The conference call, which will be hosted by Abta’s director of public affairs, Luke Petherbridge, will be joined by officials from the UK Department of Transport and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. This collaboration underscores the significant coordination between UK and EU bodies in preparing for the EES.
The session will focus on providing a comprehensive overview of what the EES entails for travel to Europe. It will offer updates on the preparedness of UK juxtaposed borders and EU borders, ensuring a smooth transition for all stakeholders involved. This preparation is crucial for minimising any potential disruptions when the system is launched.
Mark Tanzer, Abta’s chief executive, has highlighted the importance of this conference as a means to equip members with the necessary understanding of how the EES will operate and its implications for businesses and customers alike. According to Tanzer, “This is a big change to how people travel to Europe, and it has been in the pipeline for quite some time.”
As the November launch date approaches, Abta plans to intensify its communication efforts to ensure both members and consumers are well-informed about what to anticipate. The goal is to mitigate confusion and ensure compliance with the new electronic border process once it becomes live.
The introduction of the EES signifies a substantial shift in European travel procedures, necessitating thorough preparation and effective communication.
