The Fashion & Textile Children’s Trust (FTCT) has relaunched its school uniform fundraiser, aiming to alleviate the financial burdens faced by families within the fashion and textile sector.
This initiative, entering its second edition, seeks to raise essential funds for school uniforms and study essentials, addressing the economic challenges brought on by the cost of living crisis.
Fundraiser Details and Objectives
Since its inception in June 2023, FTCT’s back-to-school appeal has provided significant support to families in need. The campaign’s core objective is to cover the costs of essential school items, such as uniforms, study furniture, laptops, and tablets, for children whose families are enduring financial hardship.
Running from 1st July to 31st July, the 2024 campaign aims to gather £5,000, which is equivalent to supplying complete school uniforms for 25 children. This goal demonstrates the trust’s commitment to easing educational participation barriers for economically challenged families.

A survey conducted among 54 parents in the UK fashion and textile industry revealed alarming financial distress. Seventy-five percent reported experiencing extreme stress over back-to-school expenses, underscoring the critical need for interventions like FTCT’s campaign.
Moreover, seventy percent of parents indicated they were unable to allocate funds specifically for these expenses, highlighting the growing economic pressures faced by these families.

The charity also marked significant milestones by raising £8,300 at the 2023 Drapers Awards and £2,800 at the Drapers Sustainable Fashion Awards in 2024. Such achievements reflect the trust’s consistent dedication to assisting families in need.
