ITV is spearheading the integration of Generative AI in television advertising, releasing two new commercials crafted with the technology. This strategic move is designed to reduce the costs associated with ad production, thus lowering the barriers for small and medium-sized enterprises to enter the TV advertising space. Jason Spencer, ITV’s MediaCity-based Business Development Director, expressed that by incorporating Generative AI into their creative services, the company can offer a more inclusive access to television’s wide-reaching platform.
The first of these AI-generated advertisements is for Travel House, a travel company, which will debut in the ITV Wales region. This project represents a significant milestone in digital marketing, signalling the potential for AI to revolutionise traditional ad campaigns. Meanwhile, the second commercial created for Sheepbridge Interiors will be broadcast on UTV, further exemplifying ITV’s commitment to this innovative approach.
Both commercials utilized licensed Generative AI image and video tools in conjunction with ITV’s well-established voiceover artists. These AI-generated components have been vetted and approved through ClearCast, ensuring that they meet the industry standards and regulations. Spencer noted that while the core creativity of the advertising sector remains irreplaceable, introducing AI provides a cost-effective solution for producing high-quality content.
Katie Davies, Marketing Executive at Travel House, shared her enthusiasm regarding the launch, stating that the AI-driven approach not only aligns with their innovative marketing strategies but also promises to drive significant revenue growth. This sentiment encapsulates the broader industry implications, highlighting AI’s role in enhancing business outcomes through advanced advertising methods.
Generative AI in advertisement production is proving to be a transformative force, expanding ITV’s reach and accessibility to diverse businesses.
