Scott McNicol, a Manchester entrepreneur, has strategically moved from the printing sector to AI marketing. His former printing business, Sastech, was sold to Commerce Business Systems, a Yorkshire firm specialising in retail office equipment, for an undisclosed amount. The move signifies McNicol’s shift towards future-focused innovation, leveraging his background in entrepreneurship gained from managing Sastech.
Reflecting on his journey, McNicol noted the challenges faced when Sastech was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite initial hurdles, the company’s self-sustainability and growth contributed significantly to McNicol’s development as an entrepreneur. He expressed satisfaction with the growth of Sastech, stating, “Running the firm required a lot of effort, but the sense of achievement that came from seeing it grow was incredibly rewarding.”
Following the sale of Sastech, McNicol has redirected his expertise to Harper, an AI digital marketing firm which he claims holds immense potential. Established just last year, Harper has swiftly expanded, now serving more than 20 international clients. In August 2024, the firm announced new partnerships across Europe, America, and Australia – including with fintech white-label software companies – highlighting its quick global reach.
McNicol is optimistic about Harper’s future, envisioning it as a fusion of human expertise and cutting-edge AI technology to revolutionise lead generation. He remarked, “With Harper, we see limitless potential of combining human expertise with cutting-edge AI technology.” His experience with Sastech has provided a solid foundation, as he anticipates the challenges of growing Harper will be similar yet distinct.
Concluding his thoughts on entrepreneurship, McNicol stressed the importance of embracing the journey, acknowledging the inherent challenges but also the rewarding nature of business ventures. He shared, “If you’re passionate about what you’re building, the hard work will always pay off,” encapsulating his approach to business and future endeavours.
Scott McNicol’s journey from printing to AI marketing exemplifies a strategic pivot towards innovation, harnessing past experiences for future success.
