- CITB Chief Executive, Tim Balcon, underscores the necessity of employer input to meet industry training needs.
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has begun an important consultation process to ascertain industry support for its proposed levy for the period 2026 to 2029. This consultation is mandated by the legislation governing CITB’s operations, requiring a demonstration of sectoral consensus every three years.
Running from the 26th of September to the 24th of October 2024, CITB is deploying a series of webinars aimed at construction employers throughout England, Scotland, and Wales. These webinars are a platform for employers to express their views, which will significantly influence the final levy proposal.
Feedback procured during this period will be brought before the Levy Strategy Committee, an independent body comprising industry representatives and external specialists. Their role will be to provide strategic advice and recommendations to the CITB Board, which will then develop the final proposals for submission to the Secretary of State for Education.
Tim Balcon, CITB’s Chief Executive, stated, “Consultation is an integral part of CITB’s consensus process for reaching industry agreement on the next three-year levy order. We need the views of employers to help inform our proposals, ensuring that the skills and training we provide meet their requirements and helps deliver the workforce desperately needed to get Britain building again.” This statement highlights the pivotal role of employer participation in shaping effective and relevant training programs.
The CITB’s initiative underscores a commitment to collaborative development of training strategies crucial for the construction sector.
