United Living Group has strategically acquired a majority stake in GTEC Training Limited, known for delivering courses on low carbon energy installations such as heat pumps, solar PV, battery storage, and more. This move aligns with United Living’s commitment to quality and technology-oriented services. The acquisition also includes GTEC’s sister company, Thormer Solutions Limited, which was established by managing director Griff Thomas.
Headquartered in Hawes, Wensleydale, GTEC Training has significantly expanded its geographic coverage over the past four years, growing from one location to 19 across the United Kingdom. It remains a standalone entity, continuing to offer training both to the wider market and directly supporting United Living’s training needs, as well as those of its customers. This integration allows United Living to bolster its workforce capability and capacity, essential for addressing industry-wide skills gaps.
Neil Armstrong, chairman and chief executive of United Living Group, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, emphasising its role in overcoming industry challenges and integrating innovative technologies. Griff Thomas, managing director, highlighted the potential for GTEC to reach a broader audience and directly support United Living’s objectives for sustainability and innovation.
The acquisition of Thormer Solutions brings the Heatly app into United Living’s portfolio, a digital tool designed to streamline heat pump system design, surveying, and installation. Griff Thomas mentioned that Heatly is poised to revolutionise the heat pump sector by eliminating barriers and enhancing installation outcomes. He anticipates that the partnership with United Living will accelerate market deployment, making Heatly a leading digital solution in the sector, with its advanced scanning techniques paving the way for more widespread adoption.
This acquisition marks a significant step for United Living in enhancing its renewables capabilities and addressing the skills gap.
