Story Homes has executed the strategic acquisition of a 34-hectare development site at Killingworth Moor, located in Newcastle upon Tyne. This acquisition aligns with Story Homes’ vision to bolster its land portfolio and enhance its reputation as a prominent housebuilder in northern England. The development, which is part of North Tyneside Council’s local plan for housing growth, is set to include 550 homes, with construction projected to span over a period of ten years.
The ambitious scheme at Killingworth Moor offers a spectrum of residential options, ranging from two to six-bedroom properties. It is noteworthy that this site constitutes ‘Phase 1 North’ of the broader Killingworth Moor Masterplan, which aims to introduce approximately 2,000 homes to the area, incorporating necessary amenities such as schools, local services, and ample open spaces.
Planning consent for this site has been partially granted, encompassing full permissions for 432 homes and outline consent for an additional 118 homes. Along with residential construction, the plan includes substantial highway and infrastructure works, featuring the creation of a new roundabout at the existing A19 interchange and another off the B1317 to enhance connectivity between the north and south development areas.
Story Homes’ collaboration with North Tyneside Council will facilitate the advancement of the planning process for the initial phase of development. With planning approvals anticipated by summer 2025, construction activities are poised to commence promptly thereafter. This venture epitomises strategic urban planning, aiming to meet housing demand while fostering infrastructural enhancements.
Colin Wood, Chief Executive of Story Homes, expressed enthusiasm for this development, stating, “We are thrilled to have completed the purchase of this site at Killingworth Moor, which represents a substantial investment from our business and will pave the way for much-needed high quality new homes. This site is a very exciting addition to our growing land portfolio, further positioning Story Homes as a leading housebuilder in the north of England.”
Story Homes’ acquisition at Killingworth Moor marks a significant step in their expansion, promising robust housing growth in the region.
