An HGV driver has been banned from driving after a serious incident on major UK motorways.

Earlier this month, a hazardous situation unfolded on the M11, as a lorry dangerously veered between lanes, unnecessarily braked, and travelled along the hard shoulder between Loughton and Harlow. Concerned drivers reported these alarming manoeuvres to Essex Police, triggering a swift deployment of a roads policing unit. They intercepted the vehicle on the M25, near junction 28, after monitoring its perilous journey.
Upon apprehension, the driver, identified as 35-year-old David Sharp from Kent, was arrested. Subsequent legal proceedings at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court saw Sharp pleading guilty to a series of serious charges. These included dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, and two counts of obstructing a police officer, highlighting a clear disregard for highway safety and legal procedures.
In light of these offences, the court imposed a significant driving disqualification of 19 months on Sharp. Furthermore, he has been mandated to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, reflecting the gravity of his actions. Additionally, he faced financial penalties as part of his sentencing, underlining the judiciary’s strong stance against such reckless conduct on busy national roads.
