Digital freight forwarder sennder is on track to acquire European Surface Transportation (EST) from the U.S.-based logistics giant C.H. Robinson. This strategic acquisition will integrate a vast network of more than 6,500 shippers and over 15,000 carriers into sennder’s operations. The merger will create one of Europe’s largest full truck load (FTL) companies, with projected combined revenues reaching €1.4bn (£1.18bn).
The acquisition aims to augment service offerings and provide EST customers access to sennder’s digital platform, sennOS. This platform will empower shippers with comprehensive control over their freight management, enhancing operational visibility and efficiency. Through the integration, shippers will be able to tap into one of Europe’s largest digital carrier networks.
From the perspective of carriers, the deal signifies greater network density and improved asset utilisation, with reduced empty kilometres, fostering a more sustainable road freight network. Technological enhancements are expected to streamline administrative tasks and expedite payments for carriers, aligning with industry demands for efficiency and sustainability.
Chief executives from both companies have underscored the strategic alignment and growth potential offered by this acquisition. sennder’s CEO David Nothacker anticipates that the merger will significantly bolster sennder’s market presence, leveraging scale to enhance their digital capabilities. C.H. Robinson’s CEO David Bozeman expressed optimism regarding the continuity and quality of service for existing EST customers under sennder’s stewardship.
This acquisition, set for completion by the end of the year, marks another step in sennder’s ambitious expansion across Europe. Last year, sennder ventured into electric trucking through a joint initiative with Scania, reflecting its commitment to sustainable innovation.
The forthcoming acquisition is poised to reshape the landscape of European freight logistics, driving enhanced efficiency and growth.
