Iveco, a prominent truck manufacturer, has formed a partnership with what3words, a technology company known for its innovative location system. This collaboration is set to integrate what3words’ precise location technology into Iveco’s heavy-duty S-Way and Daily light commercial vehicle range by the end of 2024. The partnership promises to revolutionise navigation for Iveco drivers by allowing them to locate exact spots using simple three-word addresses.
Initially, the integration will feature text input for navigation, enabling drivers to manually enter the three-word addresses into their navigation system. From 2025, drivers will also benefit from voice entry capabilities. This will be facilitated through Driver Pal, Iveco’s voice-activated driver companion powered by Amazon Alexa technology. The introduction of voice input aims to make navigation even more user-friendly for drivers.
Iveco has strategically chosen what3words to tackle various navigation challenges traditionally faced by drivers. The technology effectively addresses issues related to inaccurate postcodes, unmarked construction sites, and duplicate street names. The system divides the globe into a grid of 3m by 3m squares, each assigned a unique three-word combination. This precision eliminates the common navigation inaccuracies and provides a reliable solution for locating precise delivery points.
Additionally, the innovative system supports over 60 languages, including Italian, Spanish, English, French, German, and Polish. Such versatility ensures that Iveco drivers across different regions can utilise this system without language barriers. By incorporating what3words, Iveco aims to enhance routing accuracy, reduce delivery times, and simplify the navigation process, contributing to a more efficient transport system overall.
Lorenzo Marangio, Iveco service solution chief, expressed that the company’s mission is to develop state-of-the-art services, aligning with their goals to positively impact total cost of ownership and profitability for their customers. Chris Sheldrick, co-founder and CEO of what3words, highlighted that this partnership marks a notable advancement in location technology for transportation. The integration signifies a substantial step forward in simplifying navigation.”
Iveco’s integration of what3words into its vehicles symbolises a significant leap towards efficient and precise navigation.
