In an event held at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, Silversea Cruises celebrated the keel laying of its latest vessel, Silver Ray. This ceremony, which marks a critical phase in shipbuilding, was attended by select members of the travel trade community, showcasing the importance and prestige associated with the development of this ship.
Silver Ray, the second instalment in the Nova class, is anticipated to make its debut in the summer of 2024. It will join the ranks alongside its sister ship, Silver Nova, which has already garnered attention for being the pioneering hybrid luxury cruise ship designed to be free of local emissions while docked. This positions the Nova class at the forefront of environmentally conscious travel, reflecting Silversea’s commitment to sustainability.
The Nova class’s innovation extends beyond environmental considerations. These ships introduce an unconventional asymmetrical design along with a horizontal layout, allowing for public spaces and suites to stretch across the entire vessel. This design not only maximises space but also enhances passenger experience, promising some of the most spacious and luxurious public areas at sea.
Silversea’s president and CEO, Barbara Muckermann, emphasized the growing excitement surrounding the Nova class ships, citing their groundbreaking design and environmental credentials as major selling points. Jan Meyer, Managing Director at Meyer Werft, highlighted the Nova class’s role in setting new standards towards net-zero emissions cruising, expressing confidence that these ships will meet and exceed guest expectations.
The Silver Ray represents a remarkable step forward in sustainable and innovative luxury cruising.
