Scenic Group is revitalising its fleet, with 18 river ships set for a major design overhaul.
- The redesign aligns with the luxury aesthetics of their ocean yachts.
- Innovative, sustainable elements will be introduced to enhance passenger experience.
- Design inspirations include Scenic Eclipse I & II and Emerald Cruises’ yachts.
- Scenic aims to lead in sustainable, thoughtful design within the cruise industry.
Scenic Group has embarked on a significant project to revitalise 18 of its river vessels, marking a clear commitment to luxury and innovation within the cruise sector. This ambitious initiative involves updating the main deck areas of these ships, infusing new layouts and contemporary furniture reminiscent of the refined style found on Scenic’s luxury ocean yachts, such as Scenic Eclipse I and Scenic Eclipse II, as well as Emerald Cruises’ yachts.
Karen Moroney, the director of project design at Scenic Group, has articulated that these updates are not merely cosmetic. “The design update of our river fleet integrates the elegance and innovative features of our ultra-luxury and luxury ocean yachts into our river cruise ships, elevating and enhancing the guest experience onboard,” she commented. Moroney also highlighted that this venture underscores Scenic’s dedication not only to luxury but also to pioneering sustainable and thoughtful design within the industry.
At the heart of these enhancements lies a ‘Cherish the Planet’ ethos, aiming to incorporate various sustainable elements into the ships’ design. Esteemed designers, including Missoni and Freifrau, have been enlisted to contribute to this environmentally conscious reimagining, ensuring that the vessels are not only more aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally responsible.
The river cruise sector is currently experiencing a surge in luxury demand, making it a lucrative segment within the broader cruise market. Ellen Bettridge, CEO of Uniworld Boutique River Cruise, has observed a shifting trend where increased ocean cruiser passenger numbers, which are projected to rise from 600,000 to 1 million, present a tangible opportunity for the luxury river sector. She remarks, “Right now, passenger numbers are going from 600,000 to 1 million for people who will luxury ocean cruise this year, to me that’s an opportunity for the luxury space in river. We are going to run into capacity restraints of people who go on Explorer, Silverseas and Seabourne. They want that all-inclusive experience.” This insight strengthens the reasoning behind Scenic Group’s investment, positioning them to capture a portion of this expanding market.
Scenic Group’s strategic move to modernise their river fleet signifies a forward-thinking approach to luxury, sustainability, and market adaptability.
