Catherine Leech, who co-founded 101 Holidays, is stepping away from daily operations at the end of March, after contributing immensely to the company’s success over 16 years. She will transition to a non-executive role, continuing to influence the travel inspiration site she helped build from the ground up.
Julia Kemp is appointed as her successor, bringing a wealth of experience from her previous role on the international executive leadership board at Avis Budget Zipcar. Kemp’s background in sales, partnerships, marketing, and PR is expected to bolster 101 Holidays’ strategic direction.
The website, established in 2008 by Leech along with former travel journalists Mark Hodson and David Wickers, attracts four million unique visitors annually and collaborates with 130 travel brands. Leech’s career showcases significant roles, including managing director of Caribtours and European head of the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism.
Mark Hodson, editor of 101 Holidays, expressed enthusiasm over Kemp’s appointment, recognising her expertise in business development and customer engagement. “Catherine has been pivotal to the company’s success and will be a hard act to follow,” he remarked.
Reflecting on her journey, Leech stated, “I’ve witnessed some seismic changes and challenges in our industry. The last 16 years have been a joy, building 101 Holidays from scratch. It’s now time for me to practise what I’ve always preached – to spread my wings and travel more.” Kemp, in her introductory remarks, also conveyed her excitement, mentioning the site’s reputation for insightful and professional journalism.
This leadership change signifies both continuity and a fresh perspective for 101 Holidays.
