Qatar has been witnessing a substantial influx of tourists, with recent data indicating over two million visitors in the first half of the year. The country has emerged as an attractive destination for international travellers, largely due to its strategic marketing initiatives and enhanced hospitality infrastructure. The figures recorded in May and June were particularly impressive, marking the highest for these months in the past ten years.
The mode of entry statistics reveal that 51% of guests arrived by air, highlighting the convenience and efficiency of air travel to Qatar. Interestingly, cruise tourism is on the rise, with 12% of visitors opting for this mode, while 37% arrive by land. This trend emphasises the diverse range of travel options available to tourists, catering to various preferences and enhancing Qatar’s appeal.
Berthold Trenkel, the Chief Operating Officer of Qatar Tourism, attributes the high visitor numbers to the hard work and resilience of the tourism and hospitality sectors. His statement reflects the country’s dedication to becoming a leading tourism hub in the Middle East, supported by ongoing international events and a commitment to exceptional service standards.
The remarkable growth in tourism can be traced back to the momentum gained from the FIFA World Cup hosted in 2022. The event placed Qatar in the global spotlight, showcasing its capabilities to host large-scale international events impeccably. Additionally, the ‘Feel More in Qatar’ campaign has been instrumental in marketing Qatar’s unique attractions across key global markets.
Further reinforcing its global connectivity, Qatar Airways has resumed daily flights from Birmingham Airport. This move not only strengthens the aviation link between the UK and Qatar but also reflects the airlines’ expansion strategy and its commitment to the UK market. Gary Kershaw, Qatar Airways UK & Ireland country manager, underscored this commitment, expressing excitement about providing Midland’s customers with enhanced access to their global network via Doha.
Qatar’s tourism sector is strategically positioned for continued growth, driven by robust infrastructure, events, and international collaborations.
