Oasis Travel staff have successfully raised more than £23,000 for cancer charities as part of the agency’s 40th-anniversary celebrations, highlighting their commitment to philanthropy. Scott McCabe, the son of the Northern Ireland travel agency founder, Sandra Corkin, took on the formidable Mont Blanc Marathon, raising over £10,000 for Marie Curie. His efforts honour Leslie Corkin, a co-founder who succumbed to lung cancer in 1989. ‘Scott wanted to do this because my dad set me up in business 40 years ago,’ explained Sandra Corkin, reflecting on her father’s significant impact on the agency’s inception.
The staff’s commitment to charitable causes didn’t end there; another team of 15 took on the ‘Pedal The Periphery 2024’ cycling challenge. This gruelling event involved cycling around Northern Ireland, covering 480 miles in just 48 hours, and raised £13,500 to support Nipanc. Nipanc is a charity dedicated to raising awareness of pancreatic cancer, often referred to as a ‘silent killer’, and supports cancer research.
The endurance and dedication demonstrated by the Oasis Travel team are notable not only for their charitable contributions but also for building team camaraderie. Participants took turns on the cycling challenge, covering distances between 20 to 50 miles with the support of vehicles to ensure a seamless relay. ‘It was a real team effort,’ said Sandra Corkin, who also participated in the ride. ‘The best team-building exercise we’ve ever done and the best weekend of fun and laughter!’
The events undertaken by Oasis Travel not only serve to commemorate the business’s milestone anniversary but also stand as a testament to their commitment to making a meaningful contribution to causes that resonate personally with many employees.
