In alignment with World Earth Day, Travel Counsellors have introduced the next phase of their ‘Journeys with Care’ campaign. This initiative aims to inform and guide both agents and customers towards responsible travel practices, enhancing awareness and engagement with environmental issues.
The feature includes a digital brochure designed to provide detailed information on sustainable travel. This brochure is part of the company’s efforts to ensure that individuals are knowledgeable about the impact of tourism and how to minimise adverse effects while maximising positive contributions.
Five distinct categories – Adventure, Beach, Couples, Cruise, and Family – are showcased within the brochure. Each section illustrates pioneering sustainability initiatives within the hospitality industry, highlighting hotels awarded the Travel Counsellors’ Green leaf label for their efforts in environmental stewardship.
Further solidifying its commitment, Travel Counsellors has launched a training programme for agents termed ‘Sustainability Champions’. Agents were invited to submit their proposals for sustainable travel itineraries, with fifteen successful participants being selected to undertake the Global Sustainable Tourism Council’s course. This training aims to equip them with professional qualifications in sustainable tourism, emphasising the company’s dedication to future sustainability in the travel sector.
Joe Whittle, sustainability and impact lead at Travel Counsellors, remarked on the campaign’s significance, stating, “Travel Counsellors’ latest Responsible Travel campaign represents a change in the way we look at sustainability in travel as we aim to engage a broader set of people by showing them how making more responsible switches can actually add to their experience.” He emphasised the growing importance of this once ‘niche subject’, advocating for broader involvement.
Moreover, a recent survey commissioned by Travel Counsellors revealed that 54% of respondents expect travel agencies to provide more sustainable options. This statistic underscores a significant shift in consumer expectations, hinting at an industry-wide movement towards environmentally conscious travel solutions.
Travel Counsellors’ initiatives underscore a significant commitment to sustainability, reflecting evolving consumer demands.
