Royal Caribbean International has marked a significant milestone with the delivery of its latest ship, the Utopia of the Seas. This achievement was realised through a formal handover with the French shipbuilder, Chantiers de l’Atlantique, in Saint-Nazaire. Set to make its debut from Port Canaveral, Florida, on 19 July, this Oasis class vessel will commence a schedule of three- to four-night sailings, introducing guests to a new era of cruising experiences.
In a lively address to an audience comprising the ship’s crew and media representatives, Royal Caribbean’s CEO, Michael Bayley, articulated his ambitious vision for the new vessel. He expressed his desire for the Utopia of the Seas to surpass the revenue performance of the Icon of the Seas by the year’s end. Bayley acknowledged the strong market presence of the Icon, referring to it as the best-performing ship ever launched in the company’s history. He recognised the Utopia’s itineraries, which include a visit to Perfect Day, as pivotal in achieving this financial goal.
Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Group, shared his insights on the company’s robust performance, notably in terms of share price. He attributed much of this success to the new ship’s capacity to deliver joy and satisfaction to passengers. Liberty recognised the collaboration of skilled craftsmen and experts in creating what he described as an ‘incredible city’ at sea, highlighting the prowess and dedication required to bring such a project to fruition.
