AmaWaterways has announced the addition of two new river vessels, AmaSofia and AmaKaia, to its expanding fleet. These ships are slated to bolster the company’s offerings in both Europe and the Mekong region. AmaSofia will commence its operations in Europe come 24 May 2026, ushering travellers into the ‘Magnificent Europe’ itinerary. This inaugural 14-night journey begins in Amsterdam, culminating in Budapest. Passengers will be provided with diverse activities, including guided bike rides across picturesque vineyards and quaint towns, and visits to historical landmarks such as castles and palaces. With a total of 31 departures scheduled throughout 2026, these journeys promise to captivate with rich cultural engagements along the Danube River.
Meanwhile, AmaKaia, set to embark on its maiden voyage on 3 August 2026, will become the second ship to navigate the Mekong for AmaWaterways. This vessel is dedicated to delving into the ancient culture of Southeast Asia. Travellers can choose between two seven-night itineraries—’Charms of the Mekong’ and ‘Riches of the Mekong.’ These routes offer authentic experiences like ‘xe-loi’ rides in Vietnam and Cambodia, tours of local workshops, and participation in a Buddhist blessing. Initially, the ship will conduct 22 departures in 2026, with plans to expand this to 38 by the following year, offering greater opportunities for exploration and engagement.
Additionally, AmaWaterways has addressed feedback from UK agents by introducing packages that integrate flight costs into the overall travel price. This initiative signifies a strategic move to enhance customer convenience and satisfaction, reflecting the company’s commitment to responding to client insights and improving overall service offerings.
AmaWaterways’ strategic expansion with AmaSofia and AmaKaia continues to highlight its commitment to delivering diverse and enriching river cruise experiences worldwide.
