Portsmouth City Council has formally recognised the substantial economic advantages attributed to Virgin Voyages as the Resilient Lady prepares to commence its operations from the city. This endorsement highlights the strategic significance of docking the adult-only cruise line at Portsmouth’s port, a move expected to catalyse local economic activity and tourism.
The Resilient Lady is anticipated to bolster Portsmouth’s reputation as a burgeoning hub for luxury maritime travel in the UK. In welcoming this award-winning vessel, the city reaffirms its commitment to becoming the preferred embarkation point for boutique and expedition cruise liners within the region. Councillor Steve Pitt underscored the importance of this partnership, noting the alignment with the city’s broader economic aspirations.
Scheduled to start its UK itineraries on 23 August, the Resilient Lady arrives in Portsmouth after completing a series of voyages across the Greek Isles. From its new homeport, the vessel will offer travellers an array of destinations, including culturally rich cities such as Amsterdam, Bruges, Bordeaux, Casablanca, and Lisbon. These short cultural and adventure-oriented trips are positioned as an enticing escape from British weather.
Shane Riley, Vice President of UK and International Sales, remarked, “We’re back in British waters once again, this time with a variety of short cultural stints and sunny adventure sailings to help sailors escape the British weather.” His statement underscores the growing demand for such travel experiences and the role of Virgin Voyages in meeting that demand.
The cruise line’s decision to extend its offerings follows an observed increase in demand for unique travel experiences, such as stargazing cruises, which has led to the introduction of lengthier journeys. Among these, a notable 12-night voyage to Barcelona stands out, promising a diversified and enriching travel experience for voyagers.
Portsmouth’s partnership with Virgin Voyages symbolises a pivotal advancement for the city’s economic and touristic landscape.
