Sandals Resorts has announced a significant transformation of its Emerald Bay resort, situated in The Bahamas, to be rebranded as a Beaches resort. This transformation introduces the esteemed family-oriented Beaches brand to The Bahamas for the first time, reflecting Sandals’ strategic aim of widening its Caribbean presence.
The Emerald Bay resort will officially cease operations on August 15 to facilitate renovations, with construction commencing in the autumn. Although the reopening date remains unspecified, the refurbishments aim to revitalise the property while maintaining its existing allure. Bookings for the current Sandals Emerald Bay resort, managed by Unique Caribbean Holidays Ltd, will be redirected. Affected UK travel agents have been presented with various rebooking options or compensation packages, which include resort or airfare credits.
The forthcoming Beaches Exuma promises to augment the former resort’s offerings, with an emphasis on family-centred amenities. Retained features will include a revitalised Red Lane Spa and an 18-hole golf course designed by Greg Norman. Additionally, the new Beaches Exuma will feature upgraded dining facilities with 12 diverse restaurants, family-accommodating rooms with varying configurations, and newly developed recreational facilities like a kids’ camp and splash deck. Plans also encompass new adventures tailored for the family market.
Exuma’s natural beauty and ecological richness form a key attraction point, with highlights such as the distinguished marine ecosystems, miles of pristine sandbars, and unique experiences including interactions with swimming pigs and sea turtles. This transformation aligns with Sandals Resorts International’s strategic plan of growing its brand and operations across key locations in the Caribbean.
The initiative has been warmly received by The Bahamas’ government. Chester Cooper, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism and Aviation, highlighted Sandals’ longstanding partnership with The Bahamas, and lauded the expansion as a beneficial venture that will attract more visitors and provide increased employment opportunities for Bahamians.
The rebranding of Emerald Bay into Beaches Exuma signifies a strategic and promising expansion for family tourism in The Bahamas.
