According to Wayne Newton, PepsiCo UK and Ireland’s senior marketing director, the reformulation is a success. He stated, “Our experienced R&D experts have reduced Thai Sweet Chilli’s salt content by 18%, whilst also maintaining the delicious sweet and spicy flavour that people love.” Walkers emphasises that the changes have been implemented without any compromise on taste, which is a crucial factor for retaining consumer loyalty.
The revamped Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli joins several other flavours in the Sensations range that are now classified as non-high in fat, salt, or sugar (non-HFSS). These include Crushed Sea Salt & Black Peppercorn, Mature Cheddar & Chilli Chutney, and Balsamic Vinegar & Caramelised Onion. This progression is part of Walkers’ larger strategy to for 50% of its snack sales to come from healthier alternatives by 2025, focusing on products that are non-HFSS or sold in portions of 100 calories or less per packet.
