Condor Ferries has reported a notable increase in passenger carryings this summer.
- The company saw a 14% rise in peak summer volumes to the Channel Islands.
- An adjustment to the timetable offered improved frequency of sailings.
- Car volumes have returned to pre-Covid levels across all routes.
- Collaborative efforts are anticipated with industry partners to maximise opportunities.
Condor Ferries has experienced a significant uptick in its passenger numbers this summer, reaching a 14% increase in peak season travel to the Channel Islands. This positive outcome comes after the ferry operator decided to augment the number of sailings this year, resulting in strong growth over the summer months.
The adjustment in the ferry’s timetable contributed substantially to these gains. By improving the frequency of sailings from St Malo and Jersey, and adding more capacity from the UK, Condor Ferries managed to attract 19,217 additional car and foot passengers on routes connecting the UK and France to Jersey, reflecting a remarkable 16% growth compared to 2023.
Moreover, travel between the UK, France, and Guernsey saw a 2% increase, welcoming an additional 1,084 passengers. Even more impressive was the 75% surge in inter-island travel, with passenger numbers rising from 8,766 in 2023 to 15,369 this year.
Chief Executive Christophe Mathieu attributed this success to the new summer schedule, highlighting the enhanced service frequency and capacity. “The figures are very encouraging,” he stated, “and would not have been achievable under the previous timetable.” Mathieu also expressed optimism for the forthcoming year, underscoring the potential for a successful 2025 season.
Looking ahead, Condor Ferries is committed to working closely with key industry stakeholders such as the Jersey and Guernsey Hospitality Associations and various tourism bodies, aiming to build on the momentum achieved this year and further bolster the Channel Islands as a premier destination.
The strategic timetable adjustments have positioned Condor Ferries for continued growth and success.
