Bensons for Beds has accomplished the noteworthy feat of opening 15 stores in just three weeks. This rapid expansion follows Bensons’ acquisition of 19 Carpetright stores, which took place in August. The bed specialist has managed to convert the flooring chain’s former units and has now reopened more than a dozen of them.
This expansion is particularly notable as Bensons, traditionally focused on retail parks, has ventured into high street retail with a new store in Sutton. Additionally, the company marks its return to Northern Ireland with a store in Belfast, breaking a four-year absence. The complete list of new branch locations spans Aberdeen, Ashton, Bath, Belfast, Canterbury, Edmonton, Exeter, Gillingham, Irvine, Kettering, Oldbury, Salisbury, Slough, Solihull, Sutton, and Torquay, thereby greatly enhancing its geographical footprint.
CEO Nick Collard views this achievement as a milestone in the company’s growth, noting that such a rapid scale of openings is rare in the current economic climate. He confidently suggests that Bensons is poised to leverage potential market recoveries, fortified by a strategic business transformation to position itself as a leading bed specialist.
Collard emphasises the role of committed employees in this success, reflecting on the firm’s return to profitability in 2023. He remarks, “The scale of openings we have managed to take on in the last few weeks is unprecedented by us as a business and is a huge feat for any retail business, particularly in the current economic climate.” He attributes the company’s increasing market share across core categories to the transformation efforts and the hard work of the team.
Bensons for Beds’ recent expansion underscores its strategic resilience and market adaptability, setting the stage for future growth.
