Youth and adventure agency Kilroy has unveiled ‘Tripmates’, a new series of slow travel group tours specifically designed for solo holidaymakers aged 23-31. This innovative initiative invites young travellers to engage in more meaningful and immersive travel experiences, steering clear of conventional tourist traps.
The tours are crafted to allow participants to explore destinations beyond the beaten path, thereby encouraging a deeper understanding and appreciation of the local cultures and environments. With the opening of its first UK store in Bristol, Kilroy aims to address the void left by the closure of STA Travel, offering young travellers alternative and enriching travel options.
Established in Denmark in 1991, the agency has successfully expanded its operations across the Nordics, Benelux, and now in the UK. Kilroy’s Tripmates tours provide unique opportunities that are either highly challenging or expensive for individuals to undertake independently, such as jungle survival in Borneo, meditation and trekking in Nepal, hiking in the Balkans, and freediving in Indonesia.
According to Søren Sattrup, Concepts Development Director at Kilroy International, these tours are designed to bring together young adventurers who are in search of epic experiences and meaningful connections. The focus is on creating tours for like-minded individuals in the same age bracket, thereby ameliorating the stereotypical grievances associated with group travel.
Sattrup elaborates that travelling with peers who share similar energy levels and adventure spirits reshapes the often negative perspective associated with group trips. Through Kilroy Tripmates, participants can explore the world while building connections with peers who resonate with their perspectives and desires for adventure.
Kilroy’s Tripmates initiative represents a significant step towards reinventing solo travel for younger adventurers, fostering deeper cultural connections and enhancing travel experiences.
