The Silver Travel Awards, a prestigious event for the over-50s travel market, will see an expansion in its 2024 edition. Two new categories have been introduced, designed to provide a broader scope for recognition. The ‘Overall Over-50s Holiday Provider’ category empowers the public by allowing them to nominate deserving holiday providers without the constraint of a pre-existing shortlist. This move aims to engage the over-50s community more comprehensively, enabling them to highlight exceptional performers in the industry.
Additionally, the introduction of the ‘Silver Standout for Solos’ award underscores the growing demand and development within the solo travel sector. According to Kerry Gallagher, Silver Travel Advisor’s managing director, this category is a testament to their commitment to mature solo travellers, who represent a significant portion of their audience. Gallagher expressed enthusiasm for the calibre of entries anticipated, noting the judges’ challenging task in selecting a winner given the expected quality of submissions.
The awards feature twenty categories in total, celebrating achievements in various aspects such as innovation, marketing, and sustainability. The winners will be revealed at a ceremony hosted in London’s One Moorgate Place on 24th October, with a celebrity host to be announced. The decision-making process involves the Silver Travel Advisor community, who will participate in online voting. Voting takes place between 29th July and 8th September, allowing ample time for community engagement and support.
In a reflection of the award’s growing significance, the previous year saw over 150,000 votes cast by the public, highlighting the active involvement and influence of the over-50s demographic in shaping the travel landscape. This level of engagement not only emphasises the awards’ prestige but also bolsters the standing of the nominated companies by showcasing their dedication to providing outstanding service and inspiring holiday experiences.
The Silver Travel Awards 2024 promises to be an exciting event, underscoring the dynamic evolution of the travel industry, particularly in catering to mature travellers.
