Katrina Green has earned the distinction of being named HR Manager of the Month for August, an accolade recognising her outstanding contributions to the haulage and distribution firm C M Downton. This recognition is attributed to several nominations, notably from her HR software supplier, who lauded her for generating an environment that exudes synergy and teamwork. The supplier remarked, “In the course of my day, I travel and speak to lots of people in HR so I’m used to being treated in a certain way, but occasionally you get a ‘buzz’ in an environment, everybody is on the same team and the synergy just works. That’s the sign of truly good leadership, and that begins with the HR Team. Katrina is always a pleasure to deal with, despite being busy she always makes time to talk and listen, and every member of her team is pleasant, helpful and has a ‘can do’ attitude.”
Katrina’s journey into HR was not conventional. Originally embarking on this career path after a transfer to a company requiring HR support, she has since established herself as a key player in human resources. Within a decade, she has gained a CIPD associate qualification and further certifications in mediation, coaching, mentoring, and counselling – all of which enhance her capability in an operational role. She emphasises that demonstrable experience can be as valuable as academic qualification.
Her biggest challenge came in a past role, where the company unexpectedly folded, leaving employees without pay or employment with little notice. Despite the personal impact, Katrina was instrumental in managing the transition, an experience that underscored her resilience and commitment to her field.
Among her significant achievements at C M Downton is the launch of an apprentice HGV driver scheme, an industry-first initiative. This programme has been pivotal in providing young drivers with a structured path towards achieving their career ambitions, in which Katrina takes immense pride. This initiative underscores her commitment to fostering growth and education within the industry.
Katrina Green’s career exemplifies the impact of leadership and resilience in advancing HR practices.
