The picturesque countryside of Yorkshire is set to host the eighth annual ‘100 miles in one day ride’, a significant fundraising event championing the services of Marie Curie. Scheduled to begin at the Ilkley Rugby Club, this charitable event is poised to take place on 28 June, attracting substantial participation from cyclists within the region.
Philip Paget, a partner at Gordons LLP and the organiser of the event, has shared reflections on the increasing popularity of cycling since the Tour de Yorkshire in 2014. He noted that the region’s captivating scenery has drawn numerous cycling enthusiasts, particularly during the warmer seasons. According to Mr Paget, the idea was to channel this enthusiasm among local professionals and business owners into supporting a worthy cause through a unified passion for cycling.
In his remarks, Paget expressed gratitude for the significant backing from Yorkshire cyclists and underscored the invaluable assistance provided by local businesses, which has been crucial in achieving the event’s objectives. He commended the participants for their dedication, not only evidenced through their challenging ride but also their generous financial contributions to Marie Curie. He said, “The services provided by the Marie Curie Cancer Care Hospice in Bradford are invaluable, and we are delighted to offer our support.”
With sponsorship from several organisations, including Gordons LLP, Handelsbanken, RSM, and others, the event symbolises a collective effort towards community and charitable support. Cyclists uniting for a common purpose reflects the profound sense of community and philanthropy prevalent in Yorkshire.
The event exemplifies how community collaboration can drive significant support for vital healthcare services.
