Manchester Airports Group (MAG) experienced a notable surge in passenger numbers during July, signalling strong recovery trends.
With the busiest month on record, MAG airports showcased improved operational efficiency and service standards, setting new benchmarks for passenger experience.
The Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has reported a significant increase in passenger numbers for July, marking a positive recovery post-Covid. Manchester Airport recorded its busiest month ever, handling 3.2 million passengers, a year-on-year rise of 6.8%. Similarly, Stansted Airport welcomed 2.9 million passengers, setting its own record with a 3.4% increase. East Midlands Airport was not far behind, reporting a passenger growth of 5.2% with 520,000 people passing through its gates. Collectively, the airports served 6.6 million passengers in July.
Manchester Airport’s continual growth is evidenced by its highest-ever rolling 12-month passenger total, reaching 29.6 million by the end of July. This figure surpasses its previous record of 29.4 million set in September 2019. As it edges closer to handling 30 million passengers annually, it stands poised to join the ranks of major international hubs such as LaGuardia, Melbourne, and Istanbul in terms of traffic volume. Meanwhile, all MAG airports, collectively, have registered 62.9 million passengers over the past 12 months, indicating an overall robust performance across the board.
Efficiency within these airports has also been commendable. Notably, 100% of passengers at East Midlands passed through security in under 15 minutes. Stansted and Manchester performed slightly lower, with 99% and 97% of travellers respectively experiencing brief security wait times. The consistent improvement in operational efficiency is a result of MAG’s strategic investment in infrastructure and staff training, aimed at enhancing the passenger experience and accommodating additional travel needs effectively.
Chief among the improvements is MAG’s investment in modern facilities to cater to diverse passenger requirements. This commitment enhances accessibility, ensuring that passengers with additional needs can use MAG’s airports seamlessly. These efforts are indicative of MAG’s broader strategy to enhance customer satisfaction and operational effectiveness across its airports.
The popular summer months see an increase in travel to major European holiday destinations, capitalising on warm weather and holiday seasons. Such trends indicate a steady recovery in the travel sector following the disruptions caused by the pandemic, with passengers eager to explore international locales once more.
His comments reflect Manchester Airport’s mission to combine increased passenger throughput with a strong focus on service excellence. Investments in streamlining operations have positively impacted passenger experiences, contributing to overall satisfaction and repeat travel.
Looking forward, MAG aims to sustain this growth trajectory, with strategic plans to further enhance its infrastructure and service offerings. Such initiatives are expected to support increasing passenger numbers while maintaining high operational standards. Continued focus on infrastructure development and passenger service improvement remains a priority.
MAG’s consistent growth in passenger numbers is a testament to its strategic investments and operational enhancements.
The group’s commitment to improving services and infrastructure has positioned it well for continued success in the competitive aviation sector.
