- Nature-based solutions and traditional engineering approaches will be developed under this initiative with projects up to £75m.
- Contractors are encouraged to submit pre-market responses by 17 September, with procurement expected in March 2025.
The Environment Agency is proactively reaching out to contractors as it prepares to launch a considerable £3bn asset-management initiative. This week, the agency issued a prior-information notice inviting construction suppliers to engage in a pre-market questionnaire, setting the stage for significant collaboration on the Collaborative Delivery Framework (CDF) 2.
This initiative is designed to tackle pressing flood and coastal risk management, alongside vital maintenance efforts for navigation, water, land, and biodiversity assets. Contractors will have the opportunity to work on diverse projects ranging from £1m to approximately £75m, facilitating both nature-based solutions and conventional hard engineering techniques.
The newly revised version of the framework, distinct from previous surveys, directly targets construction suppliers, signaling a targeted approach in its outreach. It is noteworthy that consultants are not required to participate in this iteration of the process.
Ahead of the formal tender process, the Environment Agency has committed to further market engagement with all interested stakeholders, ensuring comprehensive industry input and collaboration. Contractors have a deadline until 10am on 17 September to submit their responses, paving the way for full procurement activities slated for March 2025.
The Environment Agency’s £3bn framework marks a decisive step towards integrated asset management and environmental protection.
