British women’s shirt brand ‘With Nothing Underneath’ has announced a significant financial boost after successfully securing £2.5m in investment. This marks the brand’s inaugural funding round and sees notable investors Pembroke VCT and JamJar Investments, as well as existing investors of Me+Em and Tala, contributing to its growth trajectory.
Founded in 2017 by Pip Durell, a former Tatler editor, ‘With Nothing Underneath’ has swiftly garnered attention in the fashion sector with its unique positioning. The brand specialises in menswear-inspired shirts crafted to cater specifically to women, a niche that has resonated well within the market.
The investment is earmarked for several strategic developments. A primary focus will be expanding the brand’s footprint into overseas markets, including the United States, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. This move aims to capitalise on the rising international demand for British heritage fashion, a sector that continues to entice global fashion enthusiasts.
Besides geographical expansion, the infusion of capital will enable ‘With Nothing Underneath’ to enhance its product range, with plans to introduce new product lines. The brand, which opened its first store in central London in 2022 and recently expanded to include trousers in its offerings, is set to grow its physical retail presence across the UK.
Another critical component of the funding utilisation will involve key appointments to strengthen the senior leadership team. The bolstered leadership structure is expected to drive innovative strategies and support the brand’s ambitious growth plans.
Andrew Wolfson, Founder and CEO of Pembroke Investment Managers, commented on the strategic potential of the investment. According to Wolfson, “With Nothing Underneath holds a unique position in the womenswear market,” suggesting optimism about the brand’s trajectory.
Echoing similar sentiments, Pip Durell expressed enthusiasm about the brand’s future prospects. The financial support, coupled with market expertise from the new investors, is seen as pivotal in transitioning the brand to its next growth phase. Durell stated, “We are thrilled to close our first fundraise, securing two experienced and knowledgeable partners to help us to take WNU to the next phase of growth.”
The £2.5m investment marks a significant milestone for ‘With Nothing Underneath’, paving the way for substantial growth and international expansion.
