Southwest Airlines announces traffic increases during April 2017

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) has reported its April and year-to-date preliminary traffic statistics, the airline said.

Southwest flew 11.2 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in April 2017, an increase of 8.4% from the 10.4 billion RPMs flown in April 2016.

Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 7.6% to 13.4 billion in April 2017, compared with April 2016 ASMs of 12.4 billion.

The April 2017 load factor was a record for the month of April at 84.0%, compared with 83.4% in April 2016.

Based on these results and current trends, the carrier continues to expect its second quarter 2017 operating revenue per ASM (RASM) to increase in the one to two% range, as compared with second quarter 2016.

Dallas-based Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) operates a network of 101 destinations in the United States and eight additional countries with more than 3,900 departures a day during peak travel season. Its 53,000 employees serve more than 100 million customers annually. As of December 31, 2015, it operated 704 Boeing 737 aircraft.

The Weather Company to provide weather services to Jeppesen, Boeing

Jeppesen, a Boeing Company, has signed an agreement with The Weather Company, an IBM Business, for The Weather Company to serve as the primary weather source across Jeppesen and Boeing aviation products, Jeppesen said.

Through this agreement, airlines can provide their operation centers and pilots with access to the same weather information – facilitating collaboration and building confidence in key operational decisions.

Under the Boeing portfolio of products and solutions, The Weather Company will replace all previous weather sources for Jeppesen flight deck and flight planning services.

The Weather Company real-time, forecast services and weather briefings will be available for all Jeppesen aviation market segments, including airlines, business aviation operations, general aviation pilots and military operations.

Jeppesen, a Boeing subsidiary and part of the Digital Aviation business unit within Boeing Commercial Aviation Services, delivers transformative information and optimization solutions to improve the efficiency of global air operations.

The Weather Company, an IBM Business, offers accurate, personalized, and actionable weather data and insights to millions of consumers, as well as thousands of marketers and businesses via Weather´s API, its business solutions division, and its own digital products from The Weather Channel and Weather Underground.

Bombardier honors Senator Joe Manchin with NAM award

Bombardier Commercial Aircraft has honored Senator Joe Manchin at its aircraft service center in Bridgeport, West Virginia (WVAC), the company said.

The Senator toured the facility, met with employees, and was presented with the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) prestigious Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence.

The company is planning a major expansion project at WVAC in 2017 that will more than double its capacity to provide heavy maintenance, component repair, and overhaul support for CRJ Series and Q Series aircraft.

The existing 145,000 square-foot (13,470 square-metre) service centre, would double in size to approximately 300,000 square feet (27,870 square metres).

Currently, the service centre has a capacity to operate at 500,000 man-hours a year; post expansion, its capacity could increase to one million man-hours per year to accommodate up to 20 maintenance lines at a time — up from the nine lines operating today.

In addition to the WVAC, Bombardier operates commercial aircraft service centres in Tucson, Arizona and Macon, Georgia. The corporation also operates a US network of business aircraft service centres in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Dallas, Texas; Hartford, Connecticut; Wichita, Kansas; and Tucson, Arizona.

GAP airport traffic increases 19.0% during April 2017

Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico, S.A.B. de C.V., (GAP), (NYSE: PAC; BMV: GAP) has reported preliminary terminal passenger traffic figures for the month of April 2017, compared to traffic figures for April 2016, the company said.

During April 2017, total terminal passengers increased 19.0% in the company´s 13 airports, compared to the same period of the previous year. Domestic passenger traffic increased by 18.9%, while international passenger traffic increased by 19.2%.

GAP registered an 11.4% increase in the number of seats available in April 2017, compared to April 2016. Load factors for the month increased by 5.4%, from 78.0% in April 2016 to 83.4% in April 2017.

GAP operates 12 airports throughout Mexico´s Pacific region. In April 2015, the company acquired 100% of Desarrollo de Concesiones Aeroportuarias, S.L., which owns a majority stake of MBJ Airports Limited, a company operating the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Alaska Air Group board announces USD 0.30 quarterly dividend

The board of directors of Alaska Air Group (NYSE: ALK) has declared a regular quarterly cash dividend of USD 0.30 per share, the company said.

The dividend will be paid on Jun. 8, 2017, to all shareholders of record as of May 23, 2017.

Dividends are financed from operating cash flow and cash on hand.

Alaska Airlines, together with Virgin America and its regional partners, flies 40 million customers a year to 118 destinations with an average of 1,200 daily flights across the United States and to Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica and Cuba.

NTT Communications tower 2 certified as LEED Platinum

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) Financial Data Center Tower 2 (FDC2) has become the first service provider´s data center in Hong Kong to gain the LEED-CS 2009 Platinum level certification, which reinforces NTT Com´s brand promise to foster a sustainable environment and achieve operational efficiency, the company said.

The LEED-CS 2009 certification highlights NTT Com´s success in achieving sustainable development by adopting the “Think Sustainability from the Project Start” approach for building and operating FDC2.

It provides the data center facility a strong roadmap all the way from design, construction, operation to service delivery stage. FAA certifies Onboard Systems cargo hook kits for Bell 407

Vancouver, Washington-based Onboard Systems International, Inc. has obtained FAA STC certification for several new cargo hook kits for the Bell 407 aircraft featuring their Surefire release technology, the company said.

Onboard has also submitted these systems to Transport Canada for certification.

The Surefire circuit requires a purposeful, half-second press against the hook release button, guarding against inadvertent releases caused by accidental contact with the release button during flight.

In addition to offering the Surefire release technology option on new equipment, Onboard Systems can upgrade existing equipment for select models of certified cargo hooks at the factory during overhauls or upon request.

Aeromexico transports 9.5% more passengers in April 2017

Grupo Aeromexico S.A.B. de C.V. (Aeromexico) (BMV: AEROMEX) has reported April 2017 operational results, the company said.

Grupo Aeromexico transported 1,686,000 passengers in April; a 9.5% year-on-year increase. International passenger numbers increased by 28.5%, while domestic passenger numbers increased by 1.0%.

Demand, measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPKs), increased by 22.9%, year-on-year. Aeromexico´s capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASKs), increased by 10.5%, year-on-year. Its April load factor was 83.1%, an increase of 8.3p.p. compared to April 2016.

Aeromexico is a holding company whose subsidiaries are engaged in commercial aviation in Mexico and the promotion of passenger loyalty programs.
