Alaska Airlines, US Marines partner to deliver Toys for Tots

Alaska Airlines has partnered with the US Marines and Toys for Tots to deliver 15,000 pounds of toys from Southeast Alaska to the Arctic Circle this holiday season, the company said.

Alaska Airlines has supported Alaska Toys for Tots for the last 10 years, shipping toys collected in local communities throughout the state of Alaska. Since 2006, Alaska Airlines captain Tom Sharkey has coordinated the shipment from Anchorage to outlying communities.

All donations collected for Alaska Toys for Tots directly benefit children in the state of Alaska. The Alaska Marines have sponsored toy drop boxes and toy collecting events throughout the state.

Alaska Airlines, together with its regional partners, flies 32 million customers a year to more than 110 cities with an average of 970 daily flights throughout the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico and soon Cuba. Alaska Airlines transports more than 109 million pounds of cargo annually, including seafood, mail and freight.

EDM uses Mach Loop Challenge to test pilot skills

EDM has reported it plans to test pilot skills with its Mach Loop Challenge at I/ITSEC 2016, the company said.

The company said during the five-day modeling, simulation and training event, it will demonstrate its high fidelity G-Seat which will be integrated with a high definition visual system featuring Mach Loop. The visual display system has been developed in collaboration with Immersive Display Solutions and includes their VisionStation 2 desktop display system integrated with a Barco F50 projection system and Immersaview software to warp the image onto the dome surface.

The Mach Loop is situated in South Wales, UK at a military range used by the Royal Air Force, US Air Force, US Marines Corps and other allied air forces for low level, high speed flight training.

FLY Leasing reports USD23m in Q3 2016 net income

FLY Leasing Limited (NYSE: FLY) has reported USD22.9 million or USD0.70 per share in third quarter 2016, compared to a restated net income of USD27.5 million, or USD0.66 per share, for the same period in 2015, the company said.

Net income for the nine months ended September 30, 2016 was USD34.7 million, or USD1.03 per share. The restated net income was USD3.7 million, or USD0.07 per share, for the same period in 2015.

Adjusted net income was USD17.3 million for the third quarter of 2016, compared to USD41.1 million for the same period in the previous year. On a per share basis, Adjusted net income was USD0.53 in the third quarter of 2016, compared to USD0.99 for the third quarter of 2015. For the nine months ended September 30, 2016, adjusted net income was USD48.7 million, or USD1.45 per share, compared to USD83.7 million, or USD2.01 per share for the same period in 2015.

During the first nine months of 2016, FLY said it repurchased 3.2 million shares for approximately USD38 million. At September 30, 2016, approximately USD69 million remained available under the current USD75 million share repurchase program. At September 30, 2016, there were 32.5 million shares outstanding.

At September 30, 2016, FLY said its total assets were USD3.5 billion, including investment in flight equipment totaling USD3.1 billion. Cash and cash equivalents at September 30, 2016 totaled USD386.4 million, of which USD324.5 million was unrestricted.

Harris weather instrument, ground system key to US government next-generation weather mission

Harris Corporation´s (NYSE:HRS) new Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) weather instrument and enterprise ground system will be key components of the GOES-R system, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration´s (NOAA) next-generation weather satellite scheduled to launch Nov. 19, the company said.

GOES-R will provide more detailed, accurate and rapid weather information than what is available from NOAA´s current geostationary weather satellites.

The Harris ABI, the main payload on GOES-R, is a high-resolution digital camera flying 22,300 miles above the Earth. It will increase image resolution to one-tenth of a square mile, or four times better than current imagers. More filters, or spectral bands, on the ABI will detect more information about volcanic ash, dust, clouds, winds, fires, rainfall rate, and hurricane intensity than today´s geostationary weather satellites. Critical information about severe weather events can come as fast as 30 seconds, five times faster than today.

Aer Lingus to launch Dublin/Miami service

Aer Lingus, the national airline of Ireland, has reported plans to launch service between Dublin, Ireland and Miami International Airport with three weekly flights beginning on A330-200 aircraft beginning September 1, 2017.

As the 24th European route at MIA, Dublin will be a pre-clearance trans-Atlanic destination at the Miami airport, which allows passengers to have their passports processed and receive US Customs and border protection clearance before they leave Ireland, arriving in Miami as domestic fliers.

Dublin marks MIA´s fourth international route launch announcement for 2017.

Aer Lingus is the national airline of Ireland, founded in 1936. It operates 50 aircraft on routes to destinations in the UK, Continental Europe and North America, and carries over 11 million customers per year.

WOW! Q3 revenue up from Q2 figures

WOW! Internet, Cable & Phone third quarter ended September 30, 2016, with total revenue of USD311.2 million, net loss of (USD12.4) million and Adjusted EBITDA of USD115.7 million representing a sequential increase in total revenue of USD3.7 million or 1.2%, an increase in net loss of USD132.6 million and an increase in adjusted EBITDA of USD0.8 million or 0.7%, over the second quarter ended June 30, 2016, the company said.

For the third quarter ended September 30, 2016, WOW! reported Pro Forma Total Revenue of USD315.9 million, and Pro Forma Adjusted EBITDA of USD117.4 million, representing a sequential increase in Pro Forma Total Revenue of USD2.2 million or 0.7%, and an increase in Pro Forma Adjusted EBITDA of USD0.4 million or 0.3%, over the Pro Forma second quarter ended June 30, 2016.

Pro Forma Total Revenue for the twelve month period ended September 30, 2016 (“LTM”), was USD1.246 billion, a year-over-year decrease of USD3.8 million or 0.3% from the Pro Forma twelve month period ended September 30, 2015. LTM Pro Forma Adjusted EBITDA as of September 30, 2016, totaled USD463.5 million, a year-over-year increase of USD15.5 million or 3.5% from the Pro Forma twelve month period ended September 30, 2015.

Boeing receives 777X jet engine exhaust system component from Safran

Safran Nacelles has delivered the initial jet engine exhaust system component for Boeing´s new 777X airplane, the company said.

The company provided to Boeing the exhaust system´s center body, a unit that contributes to the proper aerodynamic flow of exhaust from the 777X´s General Electric GE9X turbofan engines.

The two-piece exhaust system center body was delivered from Safran Nacelles´ Le Havre, France, production facility. It is composed primarily of titanium and incorporates an acoustically treated area for reduced engine noise levels.

Safran is an international high-technology group with three core businesses: aerospace (propulsion and equipment), defence and security. The company has 70,000 employees and generated sales of EUR17.4 billion in 2015.

Comcast Cable and NBCUniversal has named Kathy Kelly-Brown new senior vice president, strategic initiatives.

In this role, Kelly-Brown will be responsible for identifying creative, technological and strategic opportunities across the entire portfolio of both Comcast and NBCUniversal.
